FlowTrace

Time to displace tracer clouds out of the side-pockets depends upon well flow rate at the depth of the side-pocket.

FlowTrace (patented) provides rate at the location where it is installed. FlowTrace located at different depths along the well provide data similar to a production log. This is achieved by a patented technology where tracer rods are placed in special designed carriers, (side-pockets). It requires a shut-in to accumulate a high concentrated tracer cloud inside the carriers. These clouds are swept into the wellbore and the time needed to empty the side-pockets are correlated with the flow. The process involves comparing response from a side-pocket at a position where the flow is known, above all inflow zones, with the response from side-pockets deeper down in the well.

FlowTrace is designed to overcome the problem caused by internal cross-flow during shut-in. For FlowTrace the tracer cloud is shielded from cross-flow and the result can be trusted also in these cases.

Qualification Results

FlowTrace (concept have been qualified at Force’s Ullrig facilities. A full scale sub was combined with pumping at realistic well flow rates and sampling.

The tracer was used to define the time it took to displace the tracer form the side-pocket at different rates. These results was compared with actual pump rates, see graph.
